ITN Travel Club of Tucson, Arizona

The ITN Travel Club of Tucson meets the second Sunday of the month, September through May, at the Nanini Library. This library is located at 7300 North Shannon Road, in the Northwest Tucson area.  Members of the club meet to enjoy presentations which may include slides, videos, photographs, brochures, etc. of their trips.

September 12 - Incan Empires

Roger and Bettye Root will make a presentation of their recent cruise on the ms Rotterdam. The ports of call were in Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Ecuador, and Peru.

October  10 - Take a Slow Boat to China!

Karen Hahn recently sailed aboard the Holland America ship, ms Volendam, on a 35 day repositioning cruise across the Pacific from Seattle to Hong Kong. Join her in exploring the many ports in Japan, South Korea and China along the way. Highlights include several free private tours with "Friendship Guides" in Japan, an overnight visit to Beijing. and three days in Hong Kong post cruise. 

November  14 - Bordeaux, the Loire Valley & Carcassonne

Dick Englert and Dolores Rohrer will make a presentation of their barge trip to the timeless regions of southwestern France including the Bordeaux and  Loire Valleys.  This is a land of valleys and vineyards with stunning beauty, romantic history and magnificent Châteaux. This history still lives in the medieval ramparts of Carcassonne and the Chartres cathedral. The Bordeaux region produces some of the best wines of the world such as full-bodied reds and sweet dessert whites that have graced the tables of wine lovers since before Roman times. We’ll glide through scenic waterways, enjoy panoramic views, cultural discoveries, village visits, and see samples of the local vintages and gourmet cuisine.

December 12 - Great Masterpieces from Spain's Prado Museum in Madrid

The Prado Museum in Madrid holds a profusion of famous paintings collected by Spain's wealthy rulers. Meet the Hapsburg royalty--Charles V, Philip II, and Philip IV and the later Bourbon kings who filled their palaces with their favorite works that now hang in the Prado. See their selections from the most painters of their time--van der Weyden and Bosch from Flanders, Titian from Venice, and El Greco, Velazquez and Goya from Spain itself. Chuck and Jan McGary will present the program.

January 9 - Highlights of Five Weeks in Europe

With a rental car, Phyllis and Nordien Jackson and two friends, were able to enjoy the villages between
Bucharest and Suceava, Romania. They particularly enjoyed the painted monasteries in the Bucovina area of Romania. Two weeks later they were in Oberammergau, Germany for the 2010 presentation of the Passion Play. They stayed in the village with a German family for two nights. The foursome had attended the play in 2000 and vowed to return in 2010. After this dramatic event, they again found themselves on the road, this time following the Martin Luther trail. All German Lutheran with grandparents born in Germany, they have wanted to do this for a very long time. They ended up at the Oktoberfest in Munich. The beer and oompah music were spectacular! They traveled by auto and train, with two overnight train journeys.

March 13 - Route of the Maya

Karen Hahn will take us on a journey to the remains of the Mayan empire of old, along with visits with their descendants, the living Mayan people today in El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, and Belize.

April 10 - Mansions of the Rich and Famous in America's Gilded Age

Chuck and Jan McGary toured the palaces of America's elite that are spread along the East Coast. From the Ringling's Venetian style palazzo in Florida to the magnificent homes of the Astors and Vanderbilts in Newport, the wealthy captains of industry built lavish mansions to dazzle their contemporaries in 19th century America.

May 8 - South Africa, Swaziland and Lesotho

During the trip we discovered the beautiful landscapes and friendly people that give life to Nelson Madela’s vision for his beloved South Africa. Experience with us South Africa’s astounding wealth of scenic and cultural treasures including the abundant wildlife of Kruger National Park and the stunning coastal vistas of Tsitsikamma National Park on the Garden Route. We visit two independent nations nestled within South Africa’s borders, namely Swaziland and Lesotho with their unique cultural identities. All of this culminated by a visit to Cape Town and the vineyards of Stellenbosch.” Dick Englert and Dolores Rohrer.
